• Sofie Ramos is a full-time artist based in LA and is best known for large-scale sculptural installations of vibrantly painted household forms and textures that flatten hierarchies and boundaries between art and everyday objects and playfully confront material excess. Ramos’s work has been included in many exhibitions mostly in California, but also across the country and abroad. Major past solo exhibitions include Bread & Salt in San Diego, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in Boulder, CO, Fort Mason and Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco, Johansson Projects in Oakland, Berkeley Civic Arts and the San Jose ICA. She has several permanent installations at Facebook HQ in Menlo Park, CA and recently completed her first permanent outdoor public sculpture in Christie Park in Emeryville, CA. She is from Cincinnati, Ohio, and holds a BA in Visual Art from Brown University and an MFA in Art Practice from UC Berkeley.

  • Kite (Dr. Suzanne Kite) is an award winning Oglála Lakȟóta performance artist, visual artist, composer and academic, known for her sound and video performance with her machine learning hair-braid interface. Kite’s practice explores contemporary Lakota ontology through research-creation, computational media, and performance. Kite often works in collaboration with family and community members. Her interdisciplinary practice spans sound, video, performances, instrument building, wearable artwork, poetry, books, interactive installations, and more.

  • The Departments of the History of Art & Architecture and Visual Art invite you to the 2024 Spear Endowed Architecture Lecture.

    Olalekan Jeyifous received a BArch from Cornell University and is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work re-imagines social spaces that examine the relationships between architecture, community, and the environment. He has exhibited at esteemed venues including the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Vitra Design Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art, where his artwork is featured in the permanent collection of the Department of Architecture and Design.

    Olalekan was co-commissioned to design a monument for congresswoman Shirley Chisholm as part of the City of New York’s “She Built NYC” initiative and has garnered numerous awards, including the notable Silver Lion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale. Additionally, he is a recipient of the 2021 Fellowship by the United States Artists and has been a Wilder Green Fellow at the MacDowell Colony and completed artist residencies at the Bellagio Center, supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Drawing Center’s Open Sessions program.
